Steamed Chicken Chinese Style

Today's RECIPE is simple and healthy. Steamed Chicken with Goji Berries and Red Dates can be prepared and cooked in a jiffy. The chicken is juicy and flavorsome.

Ingredients

  • 1 chicken breast (about 600 g/1.3 lb), chopped into 2 pieces

  • 20 g (1 tbsp) goji berries, soaked for 15 mins

  • 4 red dates, soaked for 15 mins and sliced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp white pepper powder

  • 2 tsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine (optional)

Method

01 Marinate the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, cornstarch and cooking wine (if using) for 15mins. Prepare a steamer.

02 When the chicken is ready and the water in the steamer is at a rolling boil, place the chicken together with the marinade on a heatproof dish inside the steamer.

03 Steam on high heat for 15 mins.
Add the goji berries and sliced red dates.
Steam on high heat for another 5 mins.

04 Remove from heat, slice the chicken breast(if preferred) and serve hot.


Notes

You can also use chicken thighs but adjust the steaming time. Test for doneness by inserting a skewer in the thickest part of the thigh. If the juices run clear and not bloody, it is cooked.
